Handmade Jewelry Changes with the Times
Attending arts and crafts fairs with my grandmother remains a fond memory of childhood. When I was very small, she would enlist me to help her set up her tent, get the wares out of storage containers and line them up along the display tables. I would also conduct cash transactions from the time I learned to count. Still, my favorite part of the fairs was walking through the rows of unfamiliar crafts and curios. There I would find exotic jewelry and accessories that were entirely unique.
While such fairs still exist in this day and age, they have been relegated to the ranks of anachronism. Online retailers have carved out niches of their own, offering a one-of-a-kind bracelet or a handmade necklace to more potential customers than ever before. The same level of effort and craftsmanship is devoted to the creation of the jewelry, but the business model has truly changed over time.
