What is Jade?
Jade is an ornamental stone. The term jade is applied to two different rocks that are made up of different silicate minerals. Nephrite jade consists of the calcium- and magnesium-rich amphibole mineral actinolite. The rock called jadeitite consists almost entirely of jadeite, a sodium- and aluminum-rich pyroxene. The trade name Jadite is sometimes applied to translucent/opaque green glass.
The English word ‘jade’ is derived from the Spanish term piedra de ijada or ‘loin stone’, from its reputed efficacy in curing ailments of the loins and kidneys. ‘Nephrite’ is derived from lapis nephriticus, the Latin version of the Spanish piedra de ijada.
A jade necklace and other jewelry are among the most popular examples of accessories out there.

Handmade Jewelry Changes with the Times
Attending arts and crafts fairs with my grandmother remains a fond memory of childhood. When I was very small, she would enlist me to help her set up her tent, get the wares out of storage containers and line them up along the display tables. I would also conduct cash transactions from the time I learned to count. Still, my favorite part of the fairs was walking through the rows of unfamiliar crafts and curios. There I would find exotic jewelry and accessories that were entirely unique.
While such fairs still exist in this day and age, they have been relegated to the ranks of anachronism. Online retailers have carved out niches of their own, offering a one-of-a-kind bracelet or a handmade necklace to more potential customers than ever before. The same level of effort and craftsmanship is devoted to the creation of the jewelry, but the business model has truly changed over time.

Affordable Jewelry for the Holidays
What wife wouldn’t like to receive a beautiful necklace, ring, or bracelet as a holiday gift? The difficulty in accommodating your spouse comes from choosing a fine piece of jewelry, and also knowing that you are getting a good deal for your money. Here are a few options to consider for providing your wife with a wonderful gift of jewelry that she will treasure forever.
~A fine silver handmade necklace can be just as beautiful as gold, and also cost a fraction of the price.
~Pearl accessories often cost less than those containing precious gemstones, and still succeed at showing your love and affection.
~Man-made diamonds, they’re beautiful, real diamonds that cost about half the price of regular diamonds. You can also be sure that they came from conflict free sources.
Taking Care of Your Prized Pearls
Pearls have long been a signifier of wealth and opulence. That tradition continues even today when pearls are no longer plucked from deep-sea oysters. Pearl-diving was a perilous endeavor with a high risk-reward ratio. Still, despite the prevalence of freshwater cultivated pearls, these items remain a fashion mainstay. Japan, Kuwait and the United States all boast burgeoning pearl markets.
Once you’ve obtained your treasured freshwater pearl necklace, keeping it flawless and free of scratches is no easy feat. Be sure to separate your pearls and other equally vulnerable jewelry from hard gemstones like diamonds and cubic zirconia. If you can track down a jewelry box with multiple compartments it will serve you well. Otherwise simply wrap the pearls in a soft cloth.
