Jewelry Trends Color vs. Costly Gems
With the economy being what it is, jewelry trends are leaning towards cheaper alternatives to expensive gems.
Although Sterling Silver is still going strong (its alot cheaper than gold) things like crystals, glass and less expensive stones are being snatched up by young and old alike.
Color, and lots of it in pieces like necklaces and large rings are in style. In the past it was having alot of rings , now it is a case of less being more, less rings, but larger in size.
Take this Resin Ring for example: Its beautiful color comes from Turquoise colored resin rather than a costly stone. The ring itself is big and bold . Its one inch long across the top, and its all done in sterling silver. Adding resin rather than an expensive stone makes this ring affordable, trendy and Fabulous!
How to Get that Tarnish to Vanish
While nothing compares to the eminent gleam of new sterling silver jewelry, over time the substance can tarnish and fade. Believe it or not, the best techniques for dealing with that problem have been developed in average households and passed on through generations. While a fancy, specialized silver cleaner might work just as well, you might prefer to try the following free alternative first.
Place a layer of tinfoil over the bottom of a glass dish and put the sterling silver rings on top. The silver should touch the aluminum. Sprinkle baking soda over the jewelry and top it off with enough boiling water to submerge the rings. Don’t be alarmed if you smell the sulfuric odor of rotten eggs – that means the proper chemical reaction is taking place. Allow water to cool, then rinse the jewelry with tap water. The tarnish has vanished.
